California Oil Rig
Over the past few weeks I’ve been reading an excellent tome chock full or wonderful article-sized meanderings into topics that intersect architecture, photography, urban exploration and some pretty innovative thinking into the design of the urban environment. The book is fruit of the work of Geoff Manaugh, who has been exploring these fascinating topics at his blog BLDGBLOG since 2004. Gems, such as one I read in an early post back in August 2004 “First, whenever I hear the phrase ‘buttressed buttresses’ I think of Boutros-Boutros Ghali.” keep me coming back for more, and the book does not disappoint.
If you’re interested in the wilder, more theoretical side of architecture and design conjecture, I would heartily recommend picking up this book. Whenever someone highlights oil rigs, and end-of-life uses for such incredible constructions, I cannot help but be inspired.
